All the planning and preparations we have
done are important if you are to have a successful safari.
However, once you have arrived in Africa, the single most
important factor that will ensure we meet your expectations
is the selection of our guides. Having worked together for
19 years, we know these safari professionals well, with each
having his own unique personality and talents. We carefully
match our guides' personal characteristics with your needs
when we make the choice.
We are proud to feature below two of our senior guides. We
have traveled extensively with each of them and have learned
much from their broad knowledge of Africa's wildlife.
Albanus Matei
We have been fortunate to have Albanus serve as our personal
guide during two of our most recent safaris.
His 15 years of safari experience include travels throughout
the top wildlife countries in Africa. Albanus' father was a
hunter, and he taught him the ways of Africa's wildlife, including
how to imitate the sounds of the animals we seek.
Albanus was born into the Kamba tribe in the Eastern Province
and loves to share the rich history of his tribe with our
travelers. He earned a diploma in Field Ornithology from the
National Museums of Kenya, speaks French (as well as English,
Swahili and Kamba) and is a member of the Kenya Safari Professional
Guides Association. Albanus is married with four children
and enjoys playing volleyball. When not on safari, he tends
his family's farm.
What our travelers remember most is Albanus' untiring
determination to find even the most elusive creatures while
regaling them with his extensive stories of the wildlife of
his homeland. When the subject of our quest eludes us, he
reminds us that whatever we are seeking "is very shy
today."
David Karithii Ngunyi
Over the past 18 years, we have been fortunate to have shared
some our most memorable safari moments with David Karithii.
Born into the agricultural heritage of the Kikuyu tribe, his
extensive knowledge of the African bush is largely self-taught.
David is in high demand as a guide for photographers, ready
to move out well before dawn, seek and track their subject
and patiently wait for that perfect photographic moment.
A member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association,
David lives on his family farm in Nakuru. He is particularly
proud that his oldest son, Stanley, shares his passion for
wildlife and has now joined the ranks of our safari professionals
with a silver-level guide certification.
Whenever we find our sought-after quarry, David's enthusiasm
is no less than ours. Our travelers have often remarked that
he truly seems as excited as they were, especially when we
found the unexpected. We have come to learn after so many
safaris that his love of sharing Africa's wildlife remains
one of his biggest thrills.
