Peninsula Valdes – Marine Paradise:
Any coastal journey of Argentina reaches its zenith at Peninsula Valdes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a haven for marine life. The peninsula, jutting into the Atlantic Ocean, serves as a crucial habitat for Southern right whales, orcas, elephant seals, and more.
During the whale-watching season, Southern right whales gather in the sheltered waters of Golfo Nuevo to give birth and nurse their calves. Witnessing these majestic creatures breach and play in the waves is a truly awe-inspiring experience.
The surrounding waters are also home to orcas, known for their unique hunting technique of beaching themselves to capture seals. Visitors can join boat tours to observe these incredible predators in action, showcasing the dynamic relationship between predators and prey in the wild, or watch them from the beaches and cliffs along the coast.
Additionally, Elephant seals, the largest seals on the planet, can be spotted lounging on the beaches of Peninsula Valdes. These massive marine mammals are a testament to the peninsula’s role as a vital breeding and resting ground for diverse marine species.
Lastly, there is an opportunity to walk along a beach with hundreds of thousands of Magellanic penguins, as they come ashore every year to lay their eggs and raise their chicks before spending the second half of the year at sea.
